A classic brasserie with Mediterranean accents
A neighbourhood fixture in the heart of Islington, Bellanger is a lively café, restaurant and bar, serving brunch, lunch and supper dishes inspired by the southern French regions, as well as a selection of brasserie classics.
The restaurant combines elegant period detailing with a relaxed layout and a generous pewter-topped bar at its heart. Its characterful interior is an ideal setting for weekend brunch, a leisurely lunch or supper and cocktails. In the hands of Head Chef Mauro Ferri, bistro favourites including Steak Tartare and Provençal Goats’ Cheese Salad co-exist easily with seasonal specialities such as Pan-seared Sea Bream with herb couscous, preserved lemon & harissa or Carpaccio of Candy Beetroot with caramelised walnuts.
A creative snack menu is the ideal accompaniment to cocktails at the bar or on the terrace. Seasonal plates such as Roquefort Tartine have been crafted to pair naturally with our curated selection of European wines, or cocktails that recall the herbs and fruit of South of France.
Tradition with a twist
Inspired by the elegance of Europe’s Grand cafés, Bellanger opened its doors in 2015. Located on Islington Green, its original Victorian detailing, including high ceilings and ornate cornicing, form a natural backdrop to classic French red leather brasserie banquette seating, dark wood panelling, hung artwork and antique brass details.
Latterly, Bellanger’s French sensibility has evolved to take in a softly southern French feel. Traditional brasserie interiors have been enhanced by a new generous lateral layout and lively bar, plus an art deco-inspired private dining room, while on the menu, firm favourites share space with a selection of seasonal dishes that evoke the flavours of southern Europe.
