Celebrating the inspiring women, at the heart of Bellanger
This International Women’s Day, we join in the celebration and appreciation of all the inspiring women who give so much in their roles in our business. To honour the occasion, our talented female chefs at Bellanger have curated a special menu, available all week, Monday 3rd March – Sunday 9th March.
We will be donating £1 from each dish sold to Women for Women International. To learn more about the power of women, for women, visit Women for Women.
Channelling this celebration, we sat down with senior waiter, Grace Ruto, who has really found a home at Bellanger. Her passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional service, brings Bellanger to life. She tells us why hospitality means so much to her and how female empowerment encourages her to be her best self at work.
Tell us a little about yourself
I grew up in Lincoln, the midlands, but came to London to study politics at University, after a short while I realised that it wasn’t for me, my future just wasn’t in politics. I quickly after found a good home working at Bellanger. I really love it here, the food, the wine, the people and the warm nature of the restaurant, it quickly became home. My feet are now firmly here, and I am excited to see wherever the road takes me in the world of Bellanger.
How do you prepare yourself for a day at Bellanger?
Just before I walk in, I give myself a good shake. The main part of working in a restaurant is that you have to put your best foot forward, it’s about coming here and giving your best true self, which requires, in my opinion, a bit of a shake. I walk in, look around, say hello to the families and guests that I recognise, find the station I am working on, and just go for it!
What inspires you about Bellanger?
The most inspirational aspect about Bellanger for me, is the family aspect. I really love it here because each guest, team member, even dog, is a part of the Bellanger family. You really get to know people, and in turn they get to know you, which makes service really special. Also, the food, of course. It’s so comforting and I love comfort food.
What is your favourite dish on the menu?
I am all for the classics, the French onion soup and Coq au Riesling are just amazing. I always find myself recommending the ultimate comfort foods to guests.
International Women’s Day is all about celebrating women’s achievements. How do you support/ feel supported by your female team members on the day to day?
A big part of woman-hood is hospitality; it is a natural part of us. We love people, supporting other women and helping people out. Our General Manager, Erin, has really supported me, she has made me feel seen, always acknowledges my achievements and has believed in me from the start. It is so important, for me, to feel supported and like I can really do this and having other women around you to give you that little push, truly makes that difference.
Celebrate International Women’s Day with us this week!
